Who directed the 1997 comedy film Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie?

Mel Smith directed the 1997 comedy film Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie.

The film marked Mr. Bean’s first feature-length cinema adventure. Rowan Atkinson reprised the title role, while the story transported Bean from Britain to Los Angeles, where he became involved with a valuable painting and its restoration.

Mel Smith was a British actor, comedian, director, and producer. He had previously worked with Rowan Atkinson and Richard Curtis on the television comedy Not the Nine O’Clock News, helping establish a creative connection behind the film.

A common mix-up is confusing Bean’s director with the director of the later film Mr. Bean’s Holiday. That 2007 sequel was directed by Steve Bendelack, not Smith. Bean was released internationally under the longer title Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie, although it is often shortened to Bean.
