Who directed the 1986 movie "Aliens"?

James Cameron directed the 1986 movie Aliens. The film is Cameron’s sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 science-fiction horror classic Alien, and it shifts the series from isolated survival horror toward military action and large-scale spectacle.

Aliens follows Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, as she returns to the moon where her crew first encountered the creatures. This time she joins a unit of Colonial Marines investigating a lost human colony. Cameron also wrote the screenplay, while his then-collaborator Gale Anne Hurd produced the film.

Cameron developed the project after his breakthrough with The Terminator. He submitted an early treatment in 1983, and the success of The Terminator helped persuade 20th Century Fox to let him direct. Principal photography took place mainly at Pinewood Studios in England in 1985. Released on July 18, 1986, Aliens became a critical and commercial success and earned seven Academy Award nominations, winning for sound editing and visual effects.
