In the novel 'Snow Crash', what is the name of the pizza delivery job?

The story behind the answer

In Neal Stephenson’s novel “Snow Crash,” the pizza-delivery job is called the Deliverator.

Hiro Protagonist works as a Deliverator for the Mafia-owned pizza business, racing through a fragmented future Los Angeles to deliver pizzas on time. The job’s exaggerated title reflects the novel’s blend of corporate branding, privatized government, and cyberpunk satire.

Hiro is also a freelance hacker and swordsman, so “Hacker” describes another part of his identity rather than his pizza-delivery occupation. “Courier” is similarly close in meaning, but it is associated more directly with Y.T., whose name stands for Yours Truly and who works as a skateboard courier, or “Kourier.”

The opening pizza-delivery episode introduces the novel’s fast-moving world: private franchises and enclaves have replaced much of the conventional state, while the Mafia operates a highly disciplined delivery service. The term Deliverator is therefore both a job title and a memorable piece of the book’s world-building.
