Who directed the 1982 sci-fi film "Blade Runner"?

The story behind the answer

Ridley Scott directed the 1982 science-fiction film "Blade Runner."

The film is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s 1968 novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" It follows Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, a police officer assigned to track down bioengineered synthetic humans called replicants in a dystopian Los Angeles of 2019.

Scott shaped the movie around dense urban imagery, neon-lit streets, towering architecture, and questions about memory and identity. The screenplay was developed by Hampton Fancher and David Peoples, while Vangelis composed its distinctive electronic score. Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, and Edward James Olmos also star.

Several versions of the film exist, including the theatrical cut, the 1992 Director’s Cut, and the 2007 Final Cut. This can create confusion when viewers remember different narration, scenes, or endings. Despite a difficult production and modest initial reception, the film later became one of the defining works of cyberpunk cinema.
