Who directed Star Trek: First Contact?

The story behind the answer

Jonathan Frakes directed Star Trek: First Contact.

Frakes was already widely known for playing Commander William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and he had moved into directing television episodes before making First Contact. The film was his second Star Trek feature as director, following Star Trek: Generations. His experience with the cast and the television series helped shape the film's ensemble-focused style.

First Contact follows the crew of the USS Enterprise-E as they travel back to 2063 to stop the Borg from altering humanity's first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization. The film combines time travel, Borg horror, action, and the historical story of Zefram Cochrane.

Frakes also appears in the film as Riker, making him both its director and one of its principal actors. This dual role is a notable feature of the production, though he was not the first Star Trek performer to direct a feature film. William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy had previously directed films in the original-cast series.
