Who directed Star Trek Into Darkness?

The story behind the answer

J. J. Abrams directed Star Trek Into Darkness.

Released in 2013, the film is the sequel to Star Trek, the 2009 movie that introduced an alternate timeline for the original characters. Abrams returned to direct the second installment, with Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock.

The story follows the Enterprise crew after a terrorist attack in London. Kirk is ordered to pursue John Harrison, whose identity becomes central to the film’s connection with earlier Star Trek history.

Abrams later served as a producer on Star Trek Beyond, but Justin Lin directed that 2016 film. Bryan Singer and Jon Favreau are associated with other science-fiction or franchise films and did not direct Into Darkness.
