Who did John Lennon marry in 1969?
Answer
Yoko Ono
Answer
Yoko Ono
John Lennon married Yoko Ono in 1969. They married on 20 March 1969 at the British consulate in Gibraltar, after Lennon’s divorce from his first wife, Cynthia Powell, was finalized.
Lennon and Ono had first met in November 1966 at London’s Indica Gallery, where Ono was preparing a conceptual-art exhibition. Their relationship became both personal and creative, leading to experimental recordings, public performances and the formation of the Plastic Ono Band.
After the Gibraltar ceremony, the couple spent their honeymoon in Amsterdam staging a “Bed-In for Peace,” using the publicity surrounding their wedding to protest the Vietnam War. Lennon later added “Ono” to his name by deed poll, becoming John Ono Lennon in everyday use.
The marriage lasted until Lennon’s murder in New York on 8 December 1980. Lennon and Ono had one child together, Sean, born in 1975. Lennon’s earlier marriage to Cynthia Powell produced his first son, Julian.
