Who developed the first Assassin's Creed game for Ubisoft?

The story behind the answer

Ubisoft Montreal developed the first Assassin's Creed game for Ubisoft.

The Montreal studio created the original 2007 title, which combined historical fiction, stealth, parkour, and open-world exploration. The project grew from ideas developed after Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and Ubisoft Montreal shaped the series' initial design around freer movement through large historical cities.

The studio remained closely associated with major Assassin's Creed projects. It later led development of Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed III, Assassin's Creed Origins, and Assassin's Creed Valhalla, although other Ubisoft studios also handled important entries and supporting work.

Ubisoft Quebec is a frequent source of confusion because it led Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft Sofia developed Assassin's Creed Rogue for consoles, while Ubisoft Toronto contributed to several projects. Those studios are part of the wider franchise history, but Ubisoft Montreal made the first main game.
