Who developed Assassin's Creed, the 2007 video game that began the main series?

The story behind the answer

Ubisoft Montreal developed Assassin's Creed, the 2007 video game that began the main series.

Ubisoft Montreal created the original game after developing the Prince of Persia series. The project grew from ideas involving open-world exploration, historical settings, and a hidden group of killers, eventually becoming a new Ubisoft intellectual property.

The game was directed by Patrice Désilets, with Jade Raymond serving as producer. It introduced the modern-day Animus framework and the historical story of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, allowing the developers to combine science-fiction concepts with a medieval setting.

Ubisoft Montreal remained an important studio in the franchise, but later Assassin's Creed games were developed by other Ubisoft teams as well. Ubisoft Quebec, for example, led development of Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Those later studios are therefore plausible names, but they did not develop the original 2007 title.
