Who designed the original Lamborghini Aventador?

The story behind the answer

Filippo Perini designed the original Lamborghini Aventador. He led Lamborghini’s design work during the car’s development, while the later Aventador S received design leadership associated with Mitja Borkert.

The Aventador succeeded the Murciélago and debuted in 2011 as Lamborghini’s new V12 flagship. Unlike several earlier Lamborghini designs created with outside coachbuilders, the Aventador was designed and developed in-house by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile. Its sharply faceted surfaces, fighter-aircraft cues and complex aerodynamic forms established a new direction for the brand.

Luc Donckerwolke is a common mix-up because he was Lamborghini’s design chief before Perini and shaped important earlier projects, including the Murciélago era. Marcello Gandini belongs to an earlier generation, having designed icons such as the Miura, Countach and Espada. Perini’s original Aventador design remained in production through multiple derivatives before the model ended in 2022.
