Who designed the modern McDonald’s logo adopted in 1962?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler designed the modern McDonald’s logo adopted in 1962.

Schindler, a McDonald’s construction and design employee, combined the restaurant’s two architectural arches into a single stylized form. The result became the familiar Golden Arches logo and replaced the earlier use of separate physical arches as the dominant visual identifier.

The logo simplified a feature that had originally been part of restaurant architecture. Once reduced to a graphic mark, the arches could appear on signs, packaging, advertisements, uniforms, and other brand materials without requiring the full building design.

Ray Kroc is often connected with McDonald’s expansion, while Stanley Meston designed the early restaurant buildings. Neither is the credited designer of the 1962 logo itself, which is why those names are common sources of confusion.
