Who designed the modern Golden Arches logo introduced for McDonald's in 1968?
Answer
Jim Schindler
Answer
Jim Schindler
Jim Schindler designed the modern Golden Arches logo introduced for McDonald's in 1968.
Schindler was McDonald's head of construction and engineering. In the 1960s, the company was moving away from the earlier restaurant design in which two separate yellow arches formed part of the building's architecture. Schindler's design combined the arches into the familiar single “M” mark.
The 1968 logo helped turn an architectural feature into a portable corporate symbol. It could appear on signs, packaging, uniforms, advertisements, and other materials even when a restaurant did not use the original arch-shaped building design.
Stanley Meston designed the earlier 1950s restaurant architecture, so his name is often associated with the arches. Ray Kroc was the company's expansion leader, not the logo designer. The distinction explains why the modern mark is credited to Schindler.
