Who designed the heart-with-eyes logo used by Comme des Garçons PLAY?

The story behind the answer

Filip Pagowski designed the heart-with-eyes logo used by Comme des Garçons PLAY.

The logo is associated with Comme des Garçons PLAY, a diffusion line of the Japanese fashion house Comme des Garçons. Its expressive heart character became one of the most recognizable graphics in contemporary fashion and appeared across T-shirts, knitwear and accessories.

Polish-born artist Filip Pagowski created the character, while Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawakubo oversaw the wider PLAY line. This distinction matters because Kawakubo is often credited generally with the brand’s creative direction, but the specific heart graphic is Pagowski’s work.

The PLAY heart is also frequently confused with generic heart motifs or with other Comme des Garçons sub-labels. It is not the main Comme des Garçons logo. Its simple face and bold outline helped make PLAY especially visible in streetwear, where graphic T-shirts and recognizable symbols carry strong cultural value.
