Who designed the body of the Lamborghini 350 GTV prototype?
Answer
Franco Scaglione
Answer
Franco Scaglione
Franco Scaglione designed the body of the Lamborghini 350 GTV prototype.
Scaglione created the 350 GTV’s distinctive two-seat coupé body for Lamborghini’s first major automobile project. The design featured a semi-fastback profile, concealed headlamps and an unusual six-exhaust arrangement, giving the prototype a much more dramatic appearance than the later production 350 GT.
The body was built in Turin by Carrozzeria Sargiotto, which is why the designer and builder are sometimes confused. Carrozzeria Touring later developed the production body for the 350 GT, preserving some of the prototype’s underlying character but making the car more elegant, practical and suitable for series manufacture.
The engineering team was separate from the styling role. Giotto Bizzarrini designed the original V12, while Giampaolo Dallara and Paolo Stanzani worked on the chassis and production development. Marcello Gandini, another major Lamborghini designer, belonged to a later generation of the company’s celebrated styling history and did not design the 350 GTV.
The one-off prototype was unveiled at Turin in 1963; the revised 350 GT followed at Geneva in 1964.
