Who designed McDonald's first widely used joined-arches logo in 1962?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler designed McDonald's first widely used joined-arches logo in 1962.

Schindler combined the two architectural arches into an M-shaped symbol. The design transformed a feature of McDonald's restaurant buildings into a compact mark suitable for signs, packaging, advertising, and corporate materials.

The logo is frequently attributed entirely to Stanley Meston because Meston designed the earlier physical arches. The two contributions are different: Meston created the architectural concept, while Schindler created the joined form used as a corporate logo.

The 1962 mark helped McDonald's establish a consistent visual identity as the chain expanded. Although the logo has received later refinements and different treatments, the basic Golden Arches concept remains central to the brand.
