Who designed McDonald’s first combined Golden Arches logo?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler designed McDonald’s first combined Golden Arches logo.

Schindler worked as McDonald’s head of construction and engineering when the company developed its unified emblem. Earlier restaurants often displayed separate golden arches at either side of the building, reflecting the architectural style used in the 1950s.

Schindler’s solution joined those visual elements into a single yellow “M.” The result connected the company’s buildings with a compact symbol that could be used in signs, packaging, advertising, and other branded materials.

Ray Kroc is often associated with McDonald’s expansion, but he did not design the logo. Richard and Maurice McDonald founded the original restaurant business, while Fred Turner later became a major corporate leader. Those figures are therefore common but incorrect answers to this design question.
