Who designed McDonald's familiar golden “M” logo in 1962?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler designed McDonald's familiar golden “M” logo in 1962.

Schindler combined the two yellow arches used on McDonald's restaurant buildings into a single emblem. The result looked like the letter “M” while retaining a direct connection to the restaurants' architecture.

The design was a major branding step because it could be reproduced consistently on signs, wrappers, advertisements, and other materials. It transformed a structural feature into a portable corporate mark.

Stanley Meston designed the early arch-shaped buildings, while Charles Fish helped with their signage. Those earlier contributions are why the names are sometimes mixed up with Schindler's logo credit.
