Who designed Atari’s 1984 arcade game Marble Madness?
Answer
Mark Cerny
Answer
Mark Cerny
Mark Cerny designed Atari’s 1984 arcade game Marble Madness.
Marble Madness is a racing game in which players guide marbles across six obstacle-filled courses. The courses use an isometric viewpoint and include slopes, moving hazards, enemies, and timed challenges. The game supports two players competing on the same course.
Cerny designed the game while working at Atari. Marble Madness became notable for its use of trackballs, which let players roll their marbles with direct-feeling physical control. The game’s visual style and short competitive courses also influenced later arcade and console games.
Ed Logg is a common mix-up because he designed several important Atari arcade titles, including Asteroids and Centipede. David Theurer designed Missile Command and Tempest, not Marble Madness.
