Who created the original concept for the Assassin's Creed series?

The story behind the answer

Patrice Désilets created the original concept for the Assassin's Creed series.

Désilets was the creative director of the first Assassin's Creed and had previously worked on Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The original concept grew from ideas developed for a potential Prince of Persia spin-off centered on a bodyguard or apprentice figure. That project evolved into a new historical-action franchise.

The first Assassin's Creed was developed by Ubisoft Montreal and released in 2007. Its combination of parkour, stealth, historical settings, and a science-fiction memory device became the foundation for later entries. The game was not created by a single person working alone: many designers, writers, artists, programmers, and producers shaped the finished title.

Jade Raymond served as a producer on the original game, which is why her name is also strongly associated with its development. However, the series' original creative concept is credited to Patrice Désilets.
