Who created the Big Mac while operating a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania?
Answer
Jim Delligatti
Answer
Jim Delligatti
Jim Delligatti created the Big Mac while operating a McDonald’s restaurant in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
Delligatti was one of McDonald’s early franchisees. In 1967, he developed a larger two-beef-patty sandwich with a middle bun, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions, and special sauce. The sandwich was tested regionally before McDonald’s introduced it across the United States in 1968.
The Big Mac became one of the company’s most recognizable menu items and later became a familiar symbol of McDonald’s branding. Its distinctive three-part bun helped separate it visually from ordinary hamburgers.
Ray Kroc is often incorrectly credited with inventing the sandwich. Kroc led McDonald’s expansion, but Delligatti was the franchisee who developed the Big Mac.
