Who created McDonald's familiar two-arch logo in 1962?

The story behind the answer

Jim Schindler created McDonald's familiar two-arch logo in 1962.

The logo developed from the large yellow arches used on McDonald's restaurant buildings. Those structures had been designed earlier by architect Stanley Meston, but the company needed a compact symbol that could work on packaging, signs, uniforms, and advertising. Schindler combined the two arches into a stylized M.

This change was important because it transformed an architectural feature into a portable corporate mark. The logo became easier to reproduce across different media and helped McDonald's present a unified identity as its restaurant network grew.

People sometimes attribute the entire history of the arches to one designer. Meston is associated with the original building arches, while Schindler is credited with the 1962 logo treatment. The modern symbol therefore represents both architectural branding and later graphic design.
