Who composed the soundtrack for the 2007 video game Assassin's Creed?

The story behind the answer

Jesper Kyd composed the soundtrack for the 2007 video game Assassin's Creed.

Kyd’s score helped establish the series’ musical identity with atmospheric electronic textures, orchestral writing, choral sounds, and Middle Eastern-inspired color. The music supports the game’s contrast between quiet investigation, crowded historical cities, and sudden parkour or combat sequences.

Kyd had already become known for game music before Assassin's Creed, including his work on the Hitman series. He later composed music for Assassin's Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations, making him one of the franchise’s most closely associated composers.

The series subsequently used several other major composers. Lorne Balfe worked on Assassin's Creed III and later franchise projects, while Sarah Schachner composed music for Origins and Valhalla. Austin Wintory composed the score for Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Those later contributions can cause confusion, but the original 2007 game is credited to Kyd.
