Who composed the original score for the first Assassin’s Creed video game?

The story behind the answer

Jesper Kyd composed the original score for the first Assassin’s Creed video game.

Kyd’s music helped establish the series’ early sonic identity by combining orchestral writing with electronic textures, percussion, and atmospheric vocal elements. The first game was released in 2007 and follows Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad during the Third Crusade. Its score supports the contrast between crowded historical cities, tense investigations, and stealth-focused assassinations.

Kyd is sometimes confused with later Assassin’s Creed composers. Lorne Balfe composed music for Assassin’s Creed III and contributed to several later entries, while Sarah Schachner became associated with Origins and other modern games. Austin Wintory composed the score for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

Kyd also scored Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations, making him especially important to the musical development of the Ezio trilogy. His work is one reason the early games are often remembered for a distinctive blend of historical atmosphere and modern sound design.
