Who composed the music score for the 2004 animated film Shrek 2?

Harry Gregson-Williams composed the music score for the 2004 animated film Shrek 2.

Gregson-Williams had already scored the first Shrek film and returned for its sequel. His score supports the film’s fairy-tale setting, comic action, emotional family scenes, and the expanding world of Far Far Away.

The soundtrack album also contains prominent licensed songs, including “Accidentally in Love” by Counting Crows and “Holding Out for a Hero,” performed in the film by Jennifer Saunders as Fairy Godmother. Those songs are separate from the original orchestral score.

A frequent confusion concerns John Powell. Powell co-composed the score for the first Shrek film with Gregson-Williams, but Shrek 2 is credited to Gregson-Williams alone for its original score. The distinction matters because the popular soundtrack combines score material with standalone songs.
