Who co-wrote the Jurassic Park screenplay with Michael Crichton?

The story behind the answer

David Koepp co-wrote the Jurassic Park screenplay with Michael Crichton.

Crichton, who wrote the original 1990 novel, prepared an early screenplay adaptation, but the finished film script was credited to Crichton and Koepp. Koepp’s work helped shape the novel’s dense scientific and technical material into a fast-moving adventure designed for a broad movie audience.

The adaptation retained the central premise of a dinosaur theme park collapsing into chaos, while refining character relationships, pacing and cinematic set pieces. Koepp also wrote dialogue and scenes that became central to the film’s identity, including the tense encounters involving the T. rex, the raptors and the park’s malfunctioning systems.

Several other writers are associated with later Jurassic Park-related projects, which can cause confusion. Rick Jaffa and Derek Connolly wrote Jurassic World, while Alexander Payne worked on an earlier, unused Jurassic Park III script. For the 1993 film, however, the credited screenplay partnership was Michael Crichton and David Koepp.
