Who co-wrote the 2026 live-action Moana screenplay with Jared Bush?

Dana Ledoux Miller co-wrote the 2026 live-action Moana screenplay with Jared Bush.

Miller is a Samoan writer and filmmaker whose work includes Netflix’s Thai Cave Rescue. She also co-wrote Moana 2 with Bush and served as one of that film’s directors. Her involvement brings a Pacific Islander creative perspective to a story centered on Polynesian communities, traditions, voyaging, and relationships with the ocean.

Jared Bush wrote the screenplay for the 2016 animated Moana and later became a key creative leader at Walt Disney Animation Studios. Pairing Bush’s history with the franchise and Miller’s cultural and storytelling background connects the live-action project to the original while adding another informed voice.

Qui Nguyen and Pamela Ribon have worked on other Disney or animation projects but are not the credited co-writers here. Jennifer Lee is also a major Disney writer and producer, best known for work including Frozen, but she is not the answer to this screenplay question.
