Who co-directed Stranger Things: The First Shadow with Stephen Daldry?

The story behind the answer

Justin Martin co-directed Stranger Things: The First Shadow with Stephen Daldry. The stage production is a prequel to the Netflix series, set in Hawkins in 1959 and centered on a younger Henry Creel before he became Vecna.

Martin and Daldry share directing credit rather than one being the sole director. Their collaboration continued a professional relationship that included the stage productions The Jungle and Kyoto. The play premiered in London’s West End at the Phoenix Theatre before transferring to Broadway.

A common mix-up is confusing the director with the play’s writer or story contributors. Kate Trefry wrote the script, while the original story was developed by the Duffer Brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trefry. Shawn Levy is an executive producer and directed episodes of the television series, but he did not co-direct the stage play.
