Who captured pirate Calico Jack Rackham near Jamaica in 1720?

The story behind the answer

Jonathan Barnet captured pirate Calico Jack Rackham near Jamaica in 1720.

Barnet was a pirate hunter and former privateer operating under the authority of Jamaica’s governor, Nicholas Lawes. In October 1720, Barnet attacked Rackham’s small sloop near Negril after locating it off the Jamaican coast. Rackham’s crew was reportedly heavily intoxicated and offered little effective resistance.

Rackham, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and their companions were taken to Jamaica. Rackham was tried and hanged at Port Royal in November 1720. Bonny and Read avoided immediate execution because both claimed to be pregnant, while the other convicted crew members were also sentenced to death.
