Who became the first woman to win an Olympic ski jumping gold medal in 2014?
Answer
Carina Vogt
Answer
Carina Vogt
Carina Vogt became the first woman to win an Olympic ski jumping gold medal in 2014.
Vogt won the women’s normal hill event at the Sochi Winter Olympics. Women’s ski jumping had been added to the Olympic programme for the first time at those Games, making Vogt the sport’s inaugural female Olympic champion.
Her winning competition took place on the normal hill at the RusSki Gorki Jumping Center. Vogt finished ahead of Austria’s Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and France’s Coline Mattel, who won silver and bronze respectively.
The result is sometimes confused with the first women’s ski jumping World Cup champion, a separate achievement. Japan’s Sara Takanashi was one of the leading World Cup competitors of the period, but she did not win the inaugural Olympic title. Vogt later continued competing internationally for Germany.
