Who became the first human to walk on the Moon in 1969?

The story behind the answer

Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon in 1969.

Armstrong stepped onto the lunar surface on July 21, 1969, Universal Time, during NASA’s Apollo 11 mission. Because the landing occurred late on July 20 in the United States, sources may display either date depending on the time zone used. His first step followed the lunar module Eagle’s landing in the Sea of Tranquility.

Buzz Aldrin joined Armstrong on the surface about 19 minutes later, while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command module Columbia. Armstrong and Aldrin spent about two and a half hours outside the spacecraft collecting samples, taking photographs, and deploying experiments. Armstrong had previously been a naval aviator and test pilot, including flying the X-15 rocket plane before joining NASA.
