Who became the first AEW World Champion at All Out in 2019?

The story behind the answer

Chris Jericho became the first AEW World Champion at All Out in 2019. He defeated Adam Page in the tournament-style title match on August 31, 2019, at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

All Elite Wrestling had announced the championship earlier in 2019 as its top men’s singles title. Page earned his place in the final by defeating MJF, Jungle Boy, and Sammy Guevara in qualifying and semifinal matches. Jericho reached the final after defeating Kenny Omega and other opponents.

Jericho won the championship after applying the Judas Effect, his spinning elbow strike, to Page. He became the first wrestler to hold AEW’s top title, giving the new promotion an established headliner as its inaugural champion.

The reign later ended when Jon Moxley defeated Jericho at Revolution in February 2020. Jericho’s initial AEW title reign lasted 182 days, according to AEW’s recognized championship history.
