Who became Google’s CEO when Alphabet was created in 2015?

Sundar Pichai became Google’s CEO when Alphabet was created in 2015.

Pichai joined Google in 2004 and worked on products including the Google Toolbar and Google Chrome. He later became a senior leader responsible for Chrome and other Google products, building a reputation for managing large consumer software businesses.

When Alphabet was announced in August 2015, Larry Page moved from Google’s chief executive role to become Alphabet’s CEO. Pichai took over as Google CEO, leading the subsidiary that contained Google’s core internet and technology products.

Pichai became CEO of Alphabet as well in December 2019, after Page stepped down from that position. Sergey Brin also left his role as Alphabet president at the same time. Pichai therefore leads both Google and its parent company, although Google remains the better-known operating brand.
