Assassin's Creed Origins was released in 2017.
Ubisoft launched Origins in October 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. The game was designed as a partial reinvention of the series, adding stronger role-playing mechanics, character levels, loot, crafting, and a more expansive exploration system.
Its historical setting is Ptolemaic Egypt, where Bayek of Siwa and Aya become involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood. The story includes Alexandria, Memphis, Cyrene, and other regions shaped by Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures.
Origins is not the same game as Odyssey, released in 2018, or Valhalla, released in 2020. Those titles continue the role-playing direction but use different periods and protagonists. Origins' title refers to the fictional beginnings of the Assassin movement, not to the release of the franchise's first game.
