Which year did Assassin's Creed III release worldwide?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed III released worldwide in 2012.

The game launched in October 2012 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed by additional versions and platforms. It introduced Ratonhnhaké:ton, commonly called Connor, as its principal protagonist. The story is set mainly during the American Revolution and covers events from the 1750s into the 1780s.

Assassin's Creed III was the fifth major installment in the series, following Assassin's Creed Revelations. Its historical cast includes George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Charles Lee. The game also begins with Haytham Kenway before shifting its focus to Connor.

The release year is easy to confuse with nearby entries. Brotherhood arrived in 2010, Revelations in 2011, and Black Flag in 2013. Assassin's Creed III also received a remastered edition in 2019, but that later release does not change the original worldwide launch year.
