Which WTA 1000 event did Serena Williams win eight singles titles?
Answer
Miami Open
Answer
Miami Open
Serena Williams won eight singles titles at the Miami Open, more than at any other WTA 1000 event. Her eight Miami championships came between 2002 and 2015.
Her first Miami title arrived in 2002, when she defeated Jennifer Capriati in the final. She successfully defended the title in 2003, then won again in 2004. After a gap, she returned to the winner’s circle in 2007 and 2008, before adding titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
The streak reflects both longevity and adaptability. Miami’s hard courts reward powerful serving, quick court coverage and aggressive baseline play, all central features of Williams’s game. She won the 2015 final without dropping a game, defeating Carla Suárez Navarro 6–2, 6–0.
The event was formerly known as the Lipton Championships, Ericsson Open and Sony Ericsson Open, so historical records may list different tournament names. Williams also won major titles at Indian Wells, the Canadian Open and the Italian Open, but none of those events produced eight singles championships for her.
