Which writer was C.S. Lewis’s fellow Inkling and author of The Hobbit?

The story behind the answer

J.R.R. Tolkien was C.S. Lewis’s fellow Inkling and the author of The Hobbit.

Lewis and Tolkien met at Oxford and became close friends, sharing an interest in language, mythology, medieval literature, and imaginative storytelling. Tolkien read parts of his developing work to Lewis, while Lewis supported Tolkien’s writing and discussed literary ideas with him.

Both men belonged to the Inklings, an informal Oxford literary group that included writers such as Charles Williams and Owen Barfield. Their friendship influenced their intellectual lives, but they were not co-authors of Narnia or Middle-earth. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, while Lewis created the Chronicles of Narnia.
