Which wrestler was the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1993?

The story behind the answer

Andre the Giant was the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1993.

The original Hall of Fame ceremony took place on March 22, 1993, in conjunction with WrestleMania IX. Andre had died on January 27, 1993, and WWF honored him as the first member of its new Hall of Fame.

Andre was one of the most recognizable wrestlers in the world. His extraordinary size, international appeal, and long career made him a natural choice for the inaugural honor. He wrestled in major promotions across Europe, Japan, and North America.

The WWE Hall of Fame later expanded from small ceremonies connected to WrestleMania into a large annual event with individual inductees, tag teams, factions, and legacy honorees. Bruno Sammartino was inducted much later, in 2013, despite holding WWE’s championship record for many years.
