Which wrestler performed the first moonsault in a WWE WrestleMania main event?

The story behind the answer

Shawn Michaels performed the first moonsault in a WWE WrestleMania main event at WrestleMania X.

Michaels used the move during his ladder match against Razor Ramon on March 20, 1994, at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Although the ladder match was not the night’s final match, it was one of the event’s two headline championship contests and became one of WrestleMania’s most influential matches.

The moonsault is a backward-facing aerial move in which a wrestler rotates backward from an elevated position before landing on an opponent. Michaels performed it from the top of a ladder, adding considerable height and risk.

Razor Ramon won the match and unified the Intercontinental Championship belts. Michaels’s ladder-match performance helped establish aerial offense as a major part of WWE’s big-event style.
