Pottermore was the website J.K. Rowling helped launch in 2011 as an interactive Harry Potter reading community.
The site combined reading material with interactive features, including house sorting, wand selection, quizzes, and additional writing by Rowling. It was designed to offer digital content connected to the Harry Potter books while encouraging fans to explore the wizarding world online.
Pottermore opened to the public in 2012 after an earlier period of registration and testing. Rowling contributed new background information about characters, places, and wizarding customs. This material expanded details that were not fully explained in the seven novels.
The website was later redesigned and rebranded as Wizarding World Digital in 2019. The broader Wizarding World brand covers Harry Potter and related works, including the Fantastic Beasts films. Because of that change, older references to Pottermore and newer references to Wizarding World may describe connected services at different points in their history.
