Sirius Black is the godfather of Harry Potter in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series.
Sirius was a close friend of Harry’s father, James Potter, and was chosen as Harry’s godfather before Harry’s parents were killed. He is first introduced in the third novel, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where the wizarding world believes he escaped from Azkaban prison.
The story later reveals that Sirius was wrongfully imprisoned for betraying the Potters and murdering Peter Pettigrew. Pettigrew had actually betrayed James and Lily Potter and later concealed his identity as Ron Weasley’s pet rat, Scabbers.
Sirius’s relationship with Harry becomes an important emotional thread in the series. He offers Harry a possible family connection, but their time together is limited by Sirius’s fugitive status and the dangers surrounding Voldemort’s return.
