Which Volkswagen car won WRC manufacturers' titles from 2013 through 2016?

Volkswagen entered the top-level championship with the Polo R WRC in 2013 and immediately became the benchmark team. Volkswagen Motorsport won four consecutive manufacturers’ championships, while Sébastien Ogier also secured four straight drivers’ titles during the same period. The car’s combination of four-wheel drive, a turbocharged engine and highly developed electronic and aerodynamic systems made it exceptionally effective across gravel, snow and tarmac.

The Polo R WRC was not simply a lightly modified road-going Polo. It was a purpose-built World Rally Car designed around the regulations then governing the premier WRC class. Volkswagen’s factory programme ended after the 2016 season, with the company withdrawing from the WRC rather than introducing a car for the next major regulatory era.
