Which video game franchise was originally created for the PlayStation by Naughty Dog?
Answer
Crash Bandicoot
Answer
Crash Bandicoot
The video game franchise originally created for the PlayStation by Naughty Dog was Crash Bandicoot.
Naughty Dog began developing the first game in 1994 after founders Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin envisioned a 3D platformer for Sony’s new console. The project was jokingly code-named “Sonic’s Ass Game” because the camera followed the hero from behind. The team later created Crash, an orange bandicoot designed to become a mascot for the PlayStation.
Sony published Crash Bandicoot in 1996, and the game became one of the original PlayStation’s signature titles. Naughty Dog developed the first three main games—Crash Bandicoot, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped—plus Crash Team Racing. The studio then moved on to Jak and Daxter for PlayStation 2, while the Crash property remained with Universal and later Activision.
A common mix-up is Uncharted or Jak and Daxter: both are major Naughty Dog franchises, but they were created later for different PlayStation generations. Spyro was also associated with PlayStation, yet it was developed by Insomniac Games, not Naughty Dog.
