What is the name of Sony's motion controller for PlayStation 3, first released in 2010?

The story behind the answer

Sony's motion controller for PlayStation 3, first released in 2010, was called PlayStation Move.

Sony unveiled the controller at E3 in June 2009, initially describing it generically as a motion controller. The company announced the PlayStation Move name and final design in March 2010, before releasing it in several markets that September. It used a glowing sphere, motion sensors and the PlayStation Eye camera to track the player's movements.

PlayStation Move was designed to compete with Nintendo's Wii Remote and later Microsoft's Kinect. Unlike Kinect, it was a handheld controller rather than a camera-based, controller-free system. DualShock 3 remained the standard gamepad for the PS3 and could sometimes be used alongside Move, but it was not Sony's motion controller.

The system later expanded to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR. Its companion PlayStation Move navigation controller added an analog stick and directional controls, but the motion-sensing wand itself is the device meant by the quiz question.
