Cosmonaut Aleksandr Serebrov played Tetris in space in 1993.
Serebrov took a Nintendo Game Boy and a copy of Tetris aboard the Russian space station Mir. The game was reportedly played during the Soyuz TM-17 mission, making it one of the most unusual milestones in video-game history.
Tetris was created by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union in 1984. Its falling-block design made it easy to play in short sessions, which suited the Game Boy and helped make Nintendo’s handheld version a worldwide success.
This event is sometimes confused with the first video game played on the Moon. No video game was played on the Moon; Tetris is associated with spaceflight aboard Mir, not a lunar mission.
