Which 1999 Nintendo 64 game began Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. fighting series?
Answer
Super Smash Bros.
Answer
Super Smash Bros.
The 1999 Nintendo 64 game that began Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. fighting series is Super Smash Bros.
Developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo, the game brought characters from several Nintendo franchises into one arena-based fighting game. Its roster included Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Jigglypuff.
Unlike traditional fighting games that usually reduce an opponent's health, Super Smash Bros. increases a fighter's damage percentage. Higher damage makes characters easier to launch from the stage, so victory usually comes from knocking opponents out of the arena.
The game launched in Japan in January 1999 and later reached North America and Europe. Super Smash Bros. Melee followed on the Nintendo GameCube in 2001, which is why the original Nintendo 64 title is sometimes confused with its sequel.
