Which university did C.S. Lewis join in 1954 after leaving Oxford?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis joined Cambridge University in 1954 after leaving his long academic post at Oxford.

He became the first holder of the newly established chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Magdalene College, Cambridge. The appointment gave him a professorship while allowing him to continue writing and lecturing on the literature of the medieval and Renaissance periods.

Lewis had taught at Magdalen College, Oxford, since 1925. The move did not mean that Oxford ceased to matter to him: he continued to live near Oxford and remained associated with the friendships and literary culture he had developed there.

The two college names are a frequent source of mistakes. Oxford's Magdalen College and Cambridge's Magdalene College are different institutions, and their names are pronounced differently. Lewis's Cambridge appointment was at Magdalene College, with an extra “a” in the middle.
