Answer
University of Oxford
The University of Oxford awarded C.S. Lewis a fellowship at Magdalen College in 1925.
Lewis was elected to a fellowship and tutorship at Magdalen College, Oxford, in 1925. He taught English literature there for many years and remained associated with the college until 1954. His Oxford career helped establish him as a literary scholar, essayist, and public intellectual.
At Oxford, Lewis became part of the Inklings, an informal literary group that included J.R.R. Tolkien and Charles Williams. The group met to read and discuss works in progress, including fantasy, mythology, and Christian writing. Lewis’s Oxford years also included important changes in his religious life and the development of many of his best-known books.
Lewis later became the first holder of the chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at the University of Cambridge in 1954. This later appointment can cause confusion, but his long early academic career was at Oxford, specifically Magdalen College.
