Kincsem won all 54 of her races and remains one of the most successful unbeaten racehorses in history.
The Hungarian-bred mare raced from 1876 to 1879 and won every start of her career. Her victories came across several countries, including Hungary, Germany, Austria and England, making her record notable for both its size and international reach.
Kincsem won major races such as the Goodwood Cup in 1878 and the Grand Prix de Deauville. She was owned by Ernő Blaskovich and trained by Robert Hesp.
Her name means “my treasure” in Hungarian. Kincsem is sometimes compared with Eclipse, who was also unbeaten, but Eclipse won 18 races rather than 54 and raced in the 18th century.
