Tiznow became the first horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic twice, taking the race in 2000 and 2001.
Trained by Jay Robbins and ridden by Chris McCarron, Tiznow won the 2000 Classic at Churchill Downs. He returned the following year at Belmont Park and defeated Sakhee in a dramatic finish.
His 2001 victory was especially notable because he became the first repeat Classic winner. The Breeders’ Cup Classic was inaugurated in 1984, and no horse had successfully defended the title before Tiznow.
Cigar won the 1995 Classic but did not win it again. American Pharoah won the 2015 Classic as part of his Grand Slam season, while Ghostzapper won the 2004 edition.
