Which Ubisoft studio developed the first Assassin's Creed game, released in 2007?

The story behind the answer

Ubisoft Montreal developed the first Assassin's Creed game, released in 2007.

The Montreal studio led the game's development for Ubisoft, building a historical action-adventure around stealth, parkour, investigation, and open-world exploration. The game introduced the conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood and the Templar Order to a major video-game audience.

Ubisoft Montreal is a Canadian studio based in Montreal, Quebec. It later worked on several other Assassin's Creed projects, including Assassin's Creed II and Assassin's Creed Origins. Its role is sometimes confused with Ubisoft Quebec, which led development of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, or Ubisoft Sofia, which developed Assassin's Creed Rogue.

The original game used a science-fiction framing device involving the Animus, allowing its modern-day subject to experience a simulated ancestral life. Its historical setting focused on the Levant during the Third Crusade, while the modern storyline established the series' recurring present-day conflict.
